Sanjay Raut Sentenced to 15 Days in Defamation Case, Granted Bail

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut convicted for defamatory allegations against BJP leader's wife Medha Somaiya.

Sanjay Raut, a Rajya Sabha MP from Shiv Sena (UBT), was sentenced to 15 days of simple imprisonment in a defamation case filed by Medha Somaiya.
The case stemmed from Raut's allegations that Medha Somaiya and her husband, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya, were involved in a ₹100 crore scam related to public toilets.
In addition to the jail term, Raut was fined ₹25,000 by the Mumbai metropolitan magistrate court.
Hours after the sentencing, Raut was granted bail and a 30-day suspension of the sentence to allow time for an appeal.
Raut criticized the judiciary as being influenced by the RSS, asserting his punishment was politically motivated.
