• Sanjay Kaul officially took charge on July 21 after the General Administration Department issued his appointment notification on July 15.
• He succeeds retired IAS officer Tapan Ray, who led GIFT City’s growth since 2019.
• A 2001-batch Indian Administrative Service officer, Kaul brings over 20 years of experience in public policy, infrastructure, technology and finance.
• Before this role, he served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Culture and headed Gujarat Informatics Limited and the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat.
• GIFT City, India’s first smart city and International Financial Services Centre, offers low operational costs, tax incentives and sustainable infrastructure such as district cooling and automated waste collection.
