Overview
- Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP president Conrad K. Sangma arrived in Imphal on October 9, met community groups and displaced families, and said a democratically elected government is vital to restore normalcy.
- The NPP will consult its Manipur legislators before deciding whether to support any BJP-led arrangement, with the party currently holding six MLAs in the 60-seat Assembly.
- Around 25–27 NDA legislators from Manipur, including former CM N. Biren Singh and the Assembly Speaker, have been in New Delhi since October 4–5 pressing for restoration of a popular government.
- The BJP MLAs met Northeast coordinator Sambit Patra but have not secured appointments with Amit Shah or J. P. Nadda; some told Patra that if government formation is delayed, the Assembly should be dissolved for fresh polls.
- Patra urged consensus among Meitei, Naga and Kuki legislators, even as the Centre—having extended President’s Rule from August 13 for six months—continues to receive security feedback warning against an early end to direct rule.
