Overview

• Festival organizers unveiled nine new titles for the Sept. 19–27 edition, broadening the Official Selection and Special Screenings sections.
• Edward Berger’s Ballad of a Small Player, starring Colin Farrell, was announced as part of the lineup, with outlets split on whether it plays in competition or out of competition.
• Claire Denis’ The Fence joins the Official Selection alongside James Vanderbilt’s Nuremberg, which features Rami Malek as psychiatrist Douglas Kelley and Russell Crowe as Hermann Göring.
• Dolores Fonzi’s Belén enters competition with a drama based on a miscarriage-related imprisonment case, while new entries also include works by Joachim Lafosse, Olmo Omerzu and Xiaoyu Qin.
• Juliette Binoche’s feature-length directing debut, the non-fiction IN-I in Motion, and Junji Sakamoto’s Climbing for Life are set as Special Screenings out of competition.
