Overview
- The Ministry of Transport and Communications, through the DGPPT, reported Tuesday that San Marcos is 96% complete in civil works, 65% complete in architectural work and 82% complete overall.
- Completed tasks include excavation and the reinforced concrete roof slab while current on-site work focuses on waterproofing the cover, installing metal handrails on emergency stairs, conditioning walls and sidewalks, and finishing the station vestibule.
- San Marcos is one of 11 stations in Line 2’s Stage 2 group, for which the MTC says civil works exceed 95% across the set, signaling near-completion of major underground structure work but not operational readiness.
- The station is expected to serve more than 45,000 students at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos and should shorten daily trips once trains begin running.
- Significant steps remain before passenger service starts, including interior fit-out, systems installation, commissioning and safety approvals, and the MTC has not announced a service start date.
