San Luis Obispo Man Arraigned on Federal Charges Over Synagogue Bomb Threats

Prosecutors say he used a “Billy Badass” X account to issue explicit antisemitic bomb threats now at the center of a federal case.

Overview

  • Elijah Alexander King, 36, pleaded not guilty to a three-count indictment and was ordered released on bond pending a Jan. 13, 2026 trial.
  • The charges are threats and false information regarding fire and explosives, threats by interstate communication, and false information and hoaxes.
  • Court filings say an Aug. 28 post stated “I’m gonna blow up every synagogue in a 20-mile radius,” followed by “This is a real threat,” and searches for nearby synagogues on his phone.
  • Investigators report he kept posting during a psychiatric hold, his account showed prior antisemitic content and weapon images, and he later sent racist messages to a police detective.
  • The FBI is investigating with assistance from San Luis Obispo police, and prosecutors say he faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
