Overview
- On July 14 the club’s Ethics Tribunal voted to destitute Marcelo Moretti, bar him from any elective or advisory role and expel him as a member, recommending his immediate suspension until the Assembly decides.
- Club statutes require at least 68 of the 90 Assembly votes to enact the tribunal’s recommendation, but no session date has been set and the ruling bloc lacks the extra support.
- City prosecutor Maximiliano Vence opened an investigation for defraudation by infidelity in administration after reviewing hidden-camera footage of a $25,000 cash handoff to Moretti in his presidential office.
- A dispute over whether federal or city courts should lead the criminal inquiry was elevated to the Cámara Penal de la Nación, which will determine jurisdiction for the probe.
- If convicted of defrauding club assets or facilitating illicit payments to the barra brava, Moretti could face up to six years in prison under Article 173 of the Penal Code.
