Overview
- Officers attempted a 12:30 a.m. traffic stop on a black Mercedes, which fled at high speed and crashed at Davis and Alvarado near Thrasher Park as two occupants ran from the car.
- Police say the suspected driver was seen wielding a rifle and was later found on railroad tracks west of Alvarado Street still holding the weapon.
- After the suspect did not drop the gun when ordered, an officer-involved shooting occurred with no injuries reported.
- Officers took the suspect into custody and recovered the rifle, and his name has not been released.
- The involved officer, a 4½-year department veteran, was placed on administrative leave as SLPD units investigate with independent and Alameda County District Attorney reviews also underway.
