San Leandro Apartment Fire Claims Life of 78-Year-Old Man, Displaces 12 Residents

The two-alarm blaze also resulted in the death of a family dog, with the cause still under investigation.

The fire broke out around 3:23 p.m. on Sunday in an apartment on the 14600 block of Washington Avenue.
The victim, identified as Theodis Patterson, was unable to escape the flames.
Two other residents and their family dog were inside the apartment; the residents escaped, but the dog perished.
Four apartments were damaged in total, leading to the displacement of 12 residents.
The Red Cross is currently assisting the displaced residents, while the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
