San Jose Publicizes Smoke Shop Raids After Seizing Cannabis, Psilocybin and Nitrous Oxide

Officials announced five arrests alongside imminent citations for unlicensed cannabis sales after coordinated warrants at four smoke shops.

Overview

  • On Aug. 6, SJPD’s Special Operations Division, Street Crimes Unit and Violent Crimes Enforcement Team served warrants at Grizzly’s, E. Side, JT’s and McKee smoke shops in response to complaints from residents and a city councilmember.
  • Officers seized roughly 74 pounds of cannabis products, 40 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms, 426 nitrous oxide cylinders, $11,000 in cash and one firearm.
  • Five adult males were arrested during the raids, with two booked into Santa Clara County Jail and three issued citations for drug-related offenses.
  • Police Chief Paul Joseph, joined by Mayor Matt Mahan, emphasized that illicit drug sales operating under retail fronts will be detected and prosecuted.
  • City Code Enforcement will issue administrative citations to business and property owners for selling cannabis without proper licensing as investigations continue.
