Overview

• Officers responded around 2:50 a.m. Sunday to a home on the 900 block of Wainwright Drive and found an adult woman deceased with signs of trauma, police said.
• The 911 caller reported finding his mother dead inside the residence, according to San Jose police.
• Investigators identified San Jose resident Venko Gospodinov, 60, as the primary suspect and tracked his vehicle using automated license plate readers.
• California Highway Patrol officers located Gospodinov in Capitola and took him into custody without incident before booking him into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of murder.
• Authorities said the motive remains under investigation, the medical examiner will release the victim’s identity, and the case is San Jose’s 22nd homicide of 2025.
