• On June 9 at 6 a.m. a black car made an illegal U-turn on the 1500 block of Fruitdale Avenue and struck Garmany as he rode westbound to work.
• The driver, identified as 35-year-old Misael Lara-Moya, fled the scene before police arrived and was arrested on June 11 in San Jose.
• Following multiple major surgeries, Garmany cannot feel his legs or fingers with a long, costly recovery ahead.
