Overview

  • Beginning Aug. 5, cameras will issue fines ranging from $50 to $500 based on how much drivers exceed posted limits, with fee reductions available for low-income and public assistance participants.
  • From March 20 to July 20, the 33 cameras issued over 300,000 warnings and more than 70 percent of warned drivers did not speed again.
  • After seven weeks of full activation, citywide speeding fell by 31 percent and a Fulton Street corridor saw a 63 percent drop in violations.
  • The pilot is managed by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency in partnership with Verra Mobility, which will maintain cameras and process citations.
  • Authorized by Assembly Bill 645, the five-year program runs through March 2030 and directs revenue into traffic-calming measures and Vision Zero safety projects on the city’s most dangerous streets.
