Overview

  • San Francisco’s speed cameras recorded more than 1,000 daily violations in late May, with warnings issued for speeds 11–15 mph over limits.
  • Nearly half of April’s 32,000 warnings came from the Fulton Street location, highlighting it as a significant speeding hotspot.
  • Currently, 21 of 33 cameras are fully operational, with the remaining installations expected to go live by early June following permitting delays involving PG&E and the Public Utilities Commission.
  • A 60-day grace period will follow the final camera activation, after which fines ranging from $50 to $500 will be enforced, with revenue reinvested in street safety initiatives.
  • The program is part of San Francisco’s Vision Zero goal to eliminate traffic deaths and includes equity measures like reduced fines for low-income drivers.
