San Francisco Honors Tony Bennett with Dedicated Cable Car

The city unveiled a special cable car in tribute to the late singer, marking a unique Valentine's Day celebration.

Cable car No. 53 was dedicated to Tony Bennett on Valentine's Day, featuring a ride up Nob Hill and a stop at the Fairmont Hotel, where Bennett first performed 'I Left My Heart in San Francisco.'
The dedication ceremony included tributes to Bennett, such as a plaque and decals quoting his famous song, and was attended by his widow, Susan Benedetto.
San Francisco's Municipal Transportation Agency, which has seen a recent uptick in ridership, operates the cable car system now boasting 71 percent of its pre-pandemic ridership.
This is the fourth special cable car dedication in San Francisco, joining others dedicated to significant city figures and moments.
Despite never living in San Francisco, Bennett's song has become an emblem of the city, with the Giants playing it after every home victory.
