Overview

• A Testing and Operations Pilot Permit signed Sept. 16 allows Waymo to start SFO trials in autonomous mode with trained specialists behind the wheel.
• Phase two authorizes fully driverless runs limited to Waymo and airport employees before a third phase opens paid rides to the public.
• Initial pickups and drop-offs will occur at SFO’s Kiss & Fly area by the rental car center, with passengers using the AirTrain to reach terminals, though other locations may be evaluated later.
