Overview

  • All 33 speed cameras at locations across San Francisco went live on June 6, triggering a 60-day warning period before citations begin.
  • Starting August 5, the SFMTA will mail tickets to registered vehicle owners for speeds 11 mph or more over posted limits.
  • Fines will start at $50 for drivers 11 to 15 mph above the limit and can climb to $500 for speeds reaching 100 mph or more.
  • Data from April warnings show that nearly half of all alerts came from the camera on Fulton Street between Arguello Boulevard and Second Avenue.
  • The program is framed as an educational tool under Vision Zero, and includes reduced fines for low-income violators with revenue earmarked for street safety improvements.
