San Diego Wave and Captain Kailen Sheridan Part Ways After Mutual Contract Termination

The move leaves San Diego without a goalkeeper under contract for 2026.

San Diego confirmed the mutual termination of Sheridan’s deal, which had been reported to run through the 2026 NWSL season.
Sheridan has been the Wave’s primary starter since 2022, starting all 86 of her regular-season appearances and setting the club mark with 8,128 minutes.
The club said it is in discussion with DiDi Haračić to return, while Hillary Beall has exited in free agency, leaving the position currently unfilled.
The 30-year-old assumed the captaincy after Alex Morgan’s 2024 retirement and wore the armband for most of the 2025 season.
Her tenure included NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year honors in 2022, the 2023 Shield, the 2024 Challenge Cup, and ongoing status as Canada’s starting goalkeeper and an Olympic gold medalist.
