San Diego Transit Offers Free Rides and Late-Night Service on New Year’s Eve

Agency leaders frame the plan as a safety measure to curb impaired driving.

Overview

  • Complimentary fares begin Dec. 31 at 6 p.m. across all MTS buses and Trolley lines and NCTD’s COASTER, SPRINTER, BREEZE, LIFT and NCTD+ services.
  • MTS will run added late-night trips with the Green, Orange, UC San Diego Blue and Copper lines operating every 30 minutes and final departures after 2 a.m.
  • NCTD will add COASTER and SPRINTER service, including the last northbound COASTER leaving Santa Fe Depot at 1:20 a.m. and extra SPRINTER trips in both directions.
