San Diego Man Fatally Mauled by His Three XL Bully Dogs at Park

The attack left the 26-year-old owner dead and another person injured while trying to intervene; all three dogs were euthanized.

Pedro Luis Ortega, 26, was fatally attacked by his three XL bully dogs at Mesa Viking Neighborhood Park in San Diego on December 13, 2024.
A second person sustained serious injuries while attempting to help Ortega and is currently recovering in the hospital.
Bystanders and police used tools and tasers to try to subdue the dogs during the attack, which occurred near a children’s playground.
All three dogs were captured, placed under mandatory bite quarantine, and later euthanized with the consent of a second owner.
The San Diego Humane Society and police are conducting an ongoing investigation, including testing the dogs for rabies and reviewing security footage.
