San Diego Loyal soccer club to cease operations after 2023 season

The San Diego Loyal will fold after the 2023 USL Championship season.
The club was founded in 2020 and co-owned by Landon Donovan, Warren Smith, and Andrew Vassiliadis.
They played home games at Torero Stadium but were unable to find a suitable long-term stadium solution.
The decision comes after MLS awarded an expansion franchise to a different ownership group in San Diego.
The Loyal had on-field success but faced challenges securing a long-term viable stadium.
