Overview
- Humane Law Enforcement officers coordinated with building management and the tenant’s family to enter the Imperial Avenue unit and secure the safe surrender of the animals.
 - Rescuers conducted three methodical operations, recovering 15 cats on Sept. 17, 11 on Sept. 24, and 14 on Oct. 1 to bring the total to 40.
 - Upon intake, each cat received vaccinations and medical exams, and several are being treated for upper respiratory infections common in crowded, stressed environments.
 - As of Oct. 28, SDHS reports 16 cats adopted, about a dozen currently available, and eight under medical treatment that the agency says should be ready for adoption in the coming weeks.
 - SDHS said none of the cats were spayed or neutered and noted shelters remain crowded, linking large cases to unaltered pandemic-era pets while urging overwhelmed owners to seek free assistance.
