San Diego Fleet Week Scraps Broadway Pier Events as Shutdown Halts Military Support

Organizers say the federal funding lapse leaves the pier events without the ships and equipment required.

Overview

  • All Broadway Pier programming set for Nov. 5–9 is canceled, including Student STEM Days, a USS Midway community breakfast, public visiting, and the Veterans & Military Boat Parade.
  • The Fleet Week Foundation says the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard cannot provide vessels or equipment due to the ongoing lapse in federal appropriations.
  • Navy spokesman Brian O’Rourke said the service will not participate in Fleet Week San Diego this year and planners will begin preparing for 2026 involvement in January.
  • Several activities remain on the calendar or are moving: the Fleet Week Football Classic on Nov. 1 at Snapdragon Stadium, Military Family Day on a new venue and date, and the Enlisted Recognition Luncheon on Nov. 21 at the San Diego Zoo.
  • The latest cuts follow last week’s shutdown-driven cancellation of public warship tours at Naval Base San Diego, and other events such as a concert, a service birthday celebration and a 5K are pending.
