Overview

  • The Board of Supervisors voted 4–1 on July 22 to establish the program following ICE’s high-profile May raid on Buona Forchetta and a surge in workplace enforcement this year.
  • Designed and overseen by the Office of Labor Standards and Enforcement, it provides multilingual workshops, employer checklists and sample protocols for responding to ICE or DHS workplace raids.
  • Resources will be available to small businesses, county employees and the public, with online materials offered for firms unable to attend in person.
  • Organizers aim to prevent wrongful arrests, uphold constitutional rights and reduce economic disruption for nearly 380,000 small businesses in San Diego County.
  • Supervisor Jim Desmond cast the sole dissenting vote, arguing that firm enforcement tactics are necessary to protect officers and address serious criminal offenders.
