Overview
- Drivers for Empresa de Transportes San Carlos stopped work after a third anonymous letter saying “Pagan o muerte” was found at the Chongos Bajo terminal, leaving about 25 minibuses grounded and disrupting the Chupaca–Huancayo route.
- The notes demand S/10 per vehicle and were signed by a group named “Los Mexicanos,” a claim that police say is under investigation by the División de Investigación Criminal (Divincri) of Huancayo.
- Regional police chief César Calero said intelligence and Divincri teams will probe the case and that officers from the Division of Public Order will escort units that run between Chupaca and Huancayo to protect drivers and passengers.
- Drivers say they cannot afford the S/10 fee because daily earnings are about S/20–30, a reality that has raised fear of lost income for workers and left hundreds of daily commuters without service.
- Company managers have asked authorities for more security and are evaluating whether to resume operations once protections are in place as the police investigation continues.
