San Bernardino Police Arrest Suspect in Hit-and-Run That Injured Infant and Toddler

Detectives say a community tip led them to a driver seen backing the suspected vehicle from a garage.

Overview

  • The Dec. 1 collision happened as two women and six children crossed Arrowhead Avenue at 27th Street, striking a 3-year-old and an infant in a stroller.
  • Police say the stroller was dragged more than 350 feet before the driver stopped, dislodged it, drove around it and fled at high speed.
  • After a community tip, officers early Dec. 5 spotted 27-year-old Chester Lamont Gordon backing the suspected vehicle from a garage and took him into custody.
  • Investigators seized the car, and Gordon was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and reckless driving as the case proceeds.
  • The children remain hospitalized; family members report the toddler has a broken leg and the infant a brain bleed and ruptured spleen, and relatives launched a GoFundMe for medical costs.
