San Antonio Veterans Day Parade Proceeds Despite Shutdown Pullbacks

Community groups are keeping Veterans Day plans on track.

  • Organizers said roughly 50 active-duty Army and Navy personnel withdrew because of the ongoing federal shutdown.
  • The parade begins at noon Saturday at Milam Park and proceeds through downtown along East Houston Street to Veterans Memorial Plaza.
  • About 90 entries are confirmed, including high school bands, floats, equestrian groups and Veterans of Foreign Wars organizations.
  • An inaugural Veterans 5K starts at 10:30 a.m. on the parade route with in-person and virtual options for a $35 registration fee.
  • The Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery ceremony is being scheduled by Rep. Tony Gonzales’s office for 9 a.m., with additional tributes planned at Hemisfair and during the Spurs’ Veterans Night.
