San Antonio Raid Linked to New Homeland Security Task Force as First Charges Emerge

Officials are processing detainees under a new Homeland Security task force focused on transnational crime.

Overview

  • Court records show two Honduran men were charged with illegal re-entry, and the filings do not cite ties to Tren de Aragua.
  • More than 140 people from Venezuela, Honduras, Mexico and other countries were placed in ICE custody after a pre-dawn Nov. 16 operation at a food-truck lot with a makeshift club.
  • FBI and HSI say the raid disrupted a Tren de Aragua presence, but they have not specified how many detainees, if any, are confirmed gang members or what charges most face.
  • A Texas DPS investigation led to the state search warrant executed by a newly launched Homeland Security Task Force–South Texas created under Executive Order 14159.
  • Protests drawing roughly 60 to over 100 people called for transparency on who was detained, where they are held, and the basis for the operation as officials continue to withhold case-level details.
