Overview

  • “Your Child, His Family, and Friends” by Frances Bruce Strain was borrowed in July 1943 and returned in June 2025 with its due-date card stamped July 30, 1943.
  • Marketing Manager Scott Williams confirmed this is by far the San Antonio Public Library’s longest-overdue return.
  • A letter signed “P.A.A.G.” explained the volume was found among a deceased family member’s belongings and likely accompanied the borrower’s grandmother to Mexico City.
  • The book is on display in the lobby of Central Library through the end of August in good condition.
  • After the exhibition, the Friends of SAPL will sell the book at the Book Cellar and use the proceeds to support library programs.
