Samsung's M16 OLED Debuts on iQOO 16 With 2K 165Hz Performance

It shows Samsung pushing higher brightness and better power efficiency to target gaming and premium phone screens.

Overview

  • iQOO confirmed that the iQOO 16 will be the first phone to ship Samsung Display’s M16 OLED using the LEAD 2.0 architecture, a panel co‑developed with Samsung Display on a dedicated production line.
  • Samsung disclosed the panel delivers 2K resolution at up to 165Hz with a 2,800‑nit global peak and a 10,000‑nit local peak while cutting power use by roughly 30 percent through a 22nm display driver IC and thicker pixel signal wiring.
  • The new screen adds tighter subpixel calibration, very high touch sampling and high‑frequency PWM dimming to improve color uniformity, responsiveness and perceived flicker for gaming‑focused use cases.
  • Industry reports say Samsung Display has already supplied M16 glass to other flagship devices and that Samsung Electronics plans to put M16 panels in higher‑end Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra models later, though those Galaxy plans are reported not confirmed by Samsung Electronics.
  • The shift shows how panel makers balance resolution, refresh rate, brightness and battery life by changing wiring, driver nodes and optical layers, and it could push rivals to match higher peak brightness and efficiency while letting Samsung tier the tech for its most expensive models.
