- Samsung SDI America signed a contract worth more than 2 trillion won to provide LFP batteries to an undisclosed U.S. energy infrastructure developer for energy storage systems.
- Deliveries are set to run for three years starting in 2027, marking Samsung SDI’s first announced LFP-based ESS contract and a shift from its long-standing NCA focus.
- The company will manufacture the prismatic LFP cells by converting existing production lines at its joint-venture plant with Stellantis in Indiana.
- Samsung SDI plans to secure about 30 GWh of U.S. LFP capacity by converting lines starting in the fourth quarter of 2026, and it will deploy the cells in its SBB 2.0 containerized ESS with No Thermal Propagation safety features and aluminum-can design.
