Samsung Gallery Adds Google Photos Sync as OneDrive Support Ends

Overview

• The rollout began Friday, Sept. 18 and the Gallery app update v15.9.01.7 adds a 'Sync photos and videos' setting that links a personal Google Account for backups.
• Once enabled, Gallery can selectively back up local folders such as Camera or Screenshots to Google Photos and users can turn the sync off at any time to stop new uploads.
• Google and Samsung say synced items will not appear across a user’s entire Google Photos library and those uploads will be excluded from features like Memories, Live Albums, and Search.
• Built-in OneDrive integration will stop on September 30 so users who want to keep media stored in OneDrive must continue using the OneDrive app or manually migrate before that cutoff.
• The change moves Galaxy cloud backups from Microsoft to Google, requires Android 13 or later plus recent Samsung app updates for phased availability, and will make synced media count against each user’s Google storage quota.
