Overview
- Samsung confirmed in mid-September that a new Gallery Cloud Sync listing on the Galaxy Store will back up Gallery photos and videos to Google Cloud, effectively integrating with Google Photos.
- Samsung, which set a September 30 deadline, will remove the built-in OneDrive sync from Gallery after that date and the OneDrive option has already begun disappearing for some users.
- Enabling the new Google sync requires updated Samsung components plus a device running Android 13 or later and a personal Google Account, and the feature is not available for Google Workspace accounts or supervised child accounts.
- Backups created by Gallery Cloud Sync count against a user’s Google Account storage, edits and deletions made in either Gallery or Google Photos will propagate to both apps, and some Google Photos features like Memories and Live Albums may not include items uploaded through the Gallery sync.
- Users who want continuity must move or re-link their libraries themselves or continue using the OneDrive app to access OneDrive-stored media, and the Google integration is rolling out in phases and may require app or system updates before it appears on all devices.
