Samsung Ends Software Support for Galaxy Note 20 Series After Five Years

The move leaves remaining users exposed to future vulnerabilities with few official options.

Overview

  • Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra will receive no further OS or security updates starting in September 2025.
  • Released in August 2020, the phones received three Android upgrades up to Android 13 with One UI 5.1, with a final security patch in April 2025.
  • The Note 20 line marked the end of Samsung’s dedicated Note brand, with its S Pen-centric features now found in newer S Ultra models.
  • Samsung’s current flagships are covered for four OS upgrades and up to seven years of security patches, a policy that does not apply retroactively to the Note 20 series.
  • Samsung also ended software support for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, which had received four OS updates during their lifecycle.
