Samsung Begins Mass Production of ISOCELL HP5, a 200MP Phone Sensor With 0.5µm Pixels

It is aimed at telephoto systems where its resolution enables lossless zoom.

Overview

  • Samsung says new pixel and isolation structures—FDTI, Dual Vertical Transfer Gate and DTI Center Cut—raise conversion gain by 150% and cut random noise by 3–40%.
  • The 1/1.56-inch sensor targets compact camera modules and is positioned for zoom use rather than as a flagship primary camera.
  • The HP5 supports 2x in-sensor zoom and up to 6x lossless reach with a 3x lens, with Tetrapixel binning outputting 50MP (1.0µm) or 12.5MP (2.0µm) images in low light.
  • Processing and video features include E2E remosaic for full 200MP images in under two seconds, Smart ISO Pro, Staggered HDR, 13-bit color, and recording up to 8K/30fps and 4K/120fps.
  • Samsung says mass production is underway, and reports from tipsters and outlets point to early adoption in upcoming phones such as Oppo Find X9 Pro, Realme GT 8 Pro and vivo Y500 Pro.
