Samba School Leader Arrested in Operation Vila do Conde Targeting Alleged PCC Drug Network

The court-authorized sweep grew out of a 2021 Vila do Conde cocaine seizure that exposed a Europe-bound logistics chain alongside a laundering scheme.

Overview

  • FICCO-SP led a multi-agency action with Federal Police, São Paulo state forces and Receita Federal, executing 22 preventive-arrest warrants and 40 searches across São Paulo, Pará, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais and Goiás under orders from the 4th Federal Court of Belém.
  • Alexandre Constantino Furtado, president of Império de Casa Verde and vice-president of Liga-SP, was detained in São Paulo, where agents found piles of cash, luxury watches and gold chains in his residence.
  • The court authorized the seizure and freezing of assets, rights and values up to R$ 291.5 million linked to the targets of the investigation.
  • The probe traces back to February 2021, when 458 kg of cocaine hidden in a quartz shipment were intercepted at the Porto de Vila do Conde in Barcarena, with the cargo bound for Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
  • Investigators describe a laundering structure using fictitious companies and investments in restaurants and service providers, and they allege Furtado’s link to the PCC; by evening, 13 arrests had been reported, including one in flagrante and four already in custody, according to Estadão.
