Salvation Army Serves About 3,400 Thanksgiving Meals Across Phoenix With Added Services

Organizers cite heightened need after a SNAP benefits pause.

Overview

  • The Metro Phoenix division hosted its annual meal at the Phoenix Convention Center South Building, opening to guests at 9 a.m. with dining from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • About 1,200 people ate on site while roughly 2,200 meals were delivered to homebound residents across the Valley.
  • Guests received more than food, including free haircuts, manicures, live music, pet supplies, hygiene kits, and emotional and spiritual support through partner groups.
  • Volunteers staffed the operation and guided guests through the hall as community barbers such as East Valley Styles/Reach One provided haircuts.
  • Salvation Army leaders reported an uptick in first-time help seekers earlier in November and said a larger Christmas event is planned, with volunteers requested at salvationarmyphoenix.org.
