Overview

• The recovery of the Bayesian, a 56-meter yacht that sank off Porticello in August 2024, has been postponed to May 3 due to delays in the arrival of the lifting barge from Tunisia.
• Specialized vessels Hebo Lift2 and Hebo Lift10 will be used for the 20–25 day operation, which includes cutting the yacht's 72-meter, 24-tonne mast underwater for safety.
• The wreck lies at a depth of 50 meters within a 650-meter exclusion zone enforced by the Capitaneria di Porto, prohibiting navigation, diving, and other activities until operations conclude.
• Prosecutors are investigating the causes of the sinking, with three crew members indicted for negligent homicide and negligent shipwreck, while concerns remain over encrypted hard drives reportedly containing sensitive intelligence data.
• Once recovered, the yacht and its components will be transported to Termini Imerese for forensic examination by the Public Prosecutor's Office.
