Salvador Launches Light-Rail Testing With New Urban Works Greenlit

  • Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues and Minister Rui Costa rode the first trip-test between Calçada and Lobato on Friday morning.
  • An order of service authorizes immediate urbanization in Santa Luzia, Lobato and Praia Grande this month, including new sidewalks, road access, bike lanes, sports areas, green spaces, playgrounds and outdoor gyms.
  • The electric network is planned to span 40 km with 42 stations integrated with the metro, replacing the old suburban train as testing proceeds before commercial launch.
  • Adapted wagons were announced for marisqueiras and fishermen to transport goods, alongside planned Porto da Sardinha facilities for fish treatment, freezing and on-site sales.
  • The R$5.4 billion project includes R$600 million in Caixa financing, with works progressing by sections and Trecho 3 (Águas Claras–Piatã) targeted for completion in 2028.
