Salta and Neuquén Set to Ban Cellphones in Schools After Winter Break

Digital-safety training will equip teachers, students, families to identify grooming, cyberbullying, online gambling risks.

Overview

  • Law 8.474’s regulation will ban personal cellphones in Salta’s public and private schools from July 28, allowing devices only for approved pedagogical purposes.
  • Neuquén’s Law 3.520 goes into effect next Monday, requiring phones to remain off and out of sight in all school levels unless used under teacher supervision for curricular tasks.
  • Both provinces will discourage informal WhatsApp groups between teachers and students following grooming, cyberbullying and related criminal complaints.
  • Salta will roll out technology-responsibility campaigns and collaborate with the Cybercrime Prosecutor’s Office to train school communities on digital risks.
  • Salta’s government confirmed it will not restore extra class hours but will pay outstanding wages to teachers who taught the extra sessions from January to April.
