- Sainsbury’s confirmed it will shut all remaining patisserie, hot food and pizza counters in UK stores by early summer 2025
- Earlier closures of 61 in-store cafés in April led to about 3,000 job losses and the company is also cutting around 20% of senior management roles
- Top-selling items from the discontinued counters will now be stocked on aisles and scratch bakeries will convert to bake-off operations
- The restructuring is designed to simplify operations in a tough cost environment and achieve £1 billion in savings by March 2027
- From autumn 2025 Sainsbury’s will roll out new ‘On the Go’ hubs offering flexi-serve hot food to enhance its grab-and-go range
