Overview

  • All patisserie, hot food and pizza counters plus 61 in-store cafés have been closed across UK stores as of early Summer 2025.
  • Around 3,000 staff roles were made redundant following the cafés closure in the first half of the year.
  • From Autumn, the retailer will introduce On the Go flexiserve hubs offering heated meals to shoppers in place of traditional counters.
  • The space and cost savings from service cuts will support expanded fresh food ranges and contribute to a £1 billion efficiency target by March 2027.
  • CEO Simon Roberts said a concurrent £1 billion price investment has driven Sainsbury's strongest market share gains in over a decade.
