Sailor Rescued After 24 Hours Adrift Off Australian Coast

The man, who fell from a cargo ship, was found by a fisherman near Newcastle, suffering from hypothermia but in stable condition.

The sailor fell overboard from the Singaporean bulk carrier Double Delight late Thursday night, 8 kilometers off the Newcastle coast.
A multi-agency search operation was launched, involving two helicopters and two boats, but the sailor was not located until the following evening.
The man, reportedly in his 20s, was found by a recreational fisherman waving his arms about 3 kilometers from Blacksmiths Beach.
He was wearing a life jacket, which likely aided his survival in the water for nearly 24 hours.
He was treated for hypothermia and dehydration by paramedics before being transported to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
