Overview

  • The order applies to tennis players supported by the Target Olympic Podium Scheme, National Sports Federation and Target Asian Games Group programmes.
  • Players in the TAGG scheme must sign a written undertaking acknowledging their obligation to represent India at events including the Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup, Asian Games and Olympics.
  • Any refusal to accept national selection without valid justification will result in the recovery of all financial assistance provided to date.
  • The TAGG programme was launched in April 2025 to strengthen India’s medal prospects at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
  • Davis Cup captain Rohit Rajpal and Billie Jean King Cup skipper Vishal Uppal welcomed the directive, while some officials caution it may discourage athletes from government funding.
