Overview
- Construction crews installed a 7.25-meter, 24-ton lower arm of the cross atop the central Torre de Jesús using a large crane after on-site assembly at a 54-meter platform.
- The placement brings the basilica to 162.91 meters, overtaking Ulm’s Ulmer Münster at 161.53 meters by roughly 1.38 meters.
- Project planners expect to complete the cross by late 2025 or January 2026, taking the tower to about 172–172.5 meters.
- The finished cross is designed to stand 17 meters tall and 13.5 meters wide with white glazed ceramic and glass cladding, with a visitor viewpoint planned around 165 meters.
- Additional arms are being prefabricated off-site, including in Germany, as broader façade and interior work continues over the coming years supported by visitor revenue.
