Overview

  • General Director Xavier Martínez said the central Tower of Jesus Christ is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026.
  • Chief architect Jordi Faulí reported the tower currently tops about 155 meters, with the lower half of the crowning cross already built and additional pieces to be installed in phases.
  • Project chairman Esteve Camps said the full basilica could be finished in about 10 years under normal conditions after earlier delays tied to the pandemic.
  • Sagrada Familia officials have invited the pope to lead a commemoration Mass and tower opening in June 2026 and are awaiting a response from the Vatican later this month.
  • A proposed grand external staircase still needs city approval and faces neighborhood opposition over potential residential demolition, while ongoing construction is funded by entrance fees from a record 4.9 million visitors last year.
