SAG Awards Rebrand as The Actor Awards Presented by SAG-AFTRA for 2026 Netflix Telecast

The new title aligns the telecast with its signature statuette to clarify the show’s focus for a global Netflix audience.

Overview

  • Showrunner Jon Brockett and Awards Committee chair JoBeth Williams announced the official name change on Nov. 14.
  • The first ceremony under the new name will stream live on Netflix on March 1, 2026, with nominations set for Jan. 7, 2026.
  • Organizers stress that voting, submissions, eligibility and administration remain unchanged, and SAG-AFTRA continues to present the show.
  • To ease the transition, FYC materials may use “Screen Actors Guild Awards” through pre‑nomination voting ending Jan. 5, 2026, with “The Actor Awards” advised thereafter.
  • The shift aligns the show with its long-standing statuette, The Actor, and supports clearer global recognition as Netflix carries the event to 190-plus countries, a move discussed since the 2012 SAG–AFTRA merger with input from the union’s Awards Committee.
