Overview

• Homicide detectives and crime-scene investigators determined that a man seated in the back of a vehicle was struck in the head during a drive-by attack on Aug. 12 in Arden-Arcade.
• Deputies arrested 46-year-old Jason Hankins after he attempted to conceal his vehicle and the firearm, initially booking him on attempted murder charges.
• Hankins remains detained without the possibility of bail at Sacramento County Main Jail as prosecutors prepare to amend charges to reflect the victim’s death.
• Investigators recovered the weapon used in the shooting at the scene and continue to process forensic evidence along Morse Avenue and Lerwick Road.
• The victim’s identity has been withheld pending family notification and completion of investigative procedures.
