Overview
- Police will launch a three-day targeted operation from Tuesday to examine six uncovered, unfenced mine shafts 5.5 to 12 kilometres from Oak Park Station.
- SA Police say the shaft locations were not previously known and lie outside areas that were searched on foot.
- Specialist STAR Group and Task Force Horizon teams will use dedicated equipment to assess the shafts and either locate evidence or rule out the sites.
- The new phase follows an initial 10-day search, a subsequent four-day ground effort, and the October 31 draining and search of a 4.5-metre-deep dam with no results.
- Authorities say the broad search has covered about 95 square kilometres on foot and an estimated 470 square kilometres by air and mounted units, with Gus’s family continuing to cooperate and receive support.
