SA Independent MP Nick McBride Arrested, Charged Over Alleged Domestic Assault

The independent MP already faces earlier domestic-violence counts dating to January last year.

Overview

  • Police say they were called to a Conmurra home about 10:30am Saturday and arrested a 56-year-old man from Robe identified as Nick McBride.
  • McBride was charged with aggravated assault, breach of bail and breaching an intervention order, and police refused him bail ahead of a Mount Gambier Magistrates Court appearance.
  • An 82-year-old man from Kingston South was reported for aggravated assault and will be summonsed to court at a later date, according to police.
  • McBride was elected to MacKillop as a Liberal in 2018 and left the party in 2023 to sit as an independent.
  • He has not entered pleas on earlier matters, has said he will not resign and intends to run in March’s state election, and political leaders have publicly condemned the allegations with the opposition promoting candidate Bek Rosser.
